Simon Pegg reveals 'Hot Fuzz' sequel would've gone to 'the big city'
Simon Pegg has revealed that he discussed a Hot Fuzz sequel with Edgar Wright that would’ve seen Nicholas Angel and Danny Butterman swapping sleepy Sandford for “the big city”.
The 2007 action-comedy was the middle film of Pegg and Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy, following Shaun of the Dead and preceding The World’s End.
Pegg told MovieWeb that Hot Fuzz is the only one of the trilogy that “lends itself to a sequel” and that he and Wright discussed several ideas for a follow-up.

He said: “We already joked about having a Crocodile Dundee reversal of it being Danny in the city.
“The hypothetical sequel would be Danny and Angel in the big city together.”
Pegg also said he discussed a spin-off movie with Wright that would focus on the detective characters known as the “Andys” — played by Paddy Considine and Rafe Spall.
Sadly for fans, though, the 50-year-old star suggested that a sequel was now very unlikely, despite consistent rumours over the years.

“Edgar [Wright] and I, when we’ve done something, we want to move onto the next thing,” said Pegg.
“All of those films, they have an arc and then they finish.
“We made Shaun Of The Dead, and the sequel to that film is Hot Fuzz, and the sequel to Hot Fuzz is The World’s End. They’re a thematic trilogy rather than direct sequels.”
Pegg is currently promoting his work in the thriller Inheritance, alongside Lily Collins and Connie Nielsen.
He was also filming the next chapter of his role as tech expert Benji in the Mission: Impossible franchise, until the coronavirus pandemic shut the movie down.

Wright, meanwhile, has signed on to helm a bizarre movie about an android learning how to love through the power of movies.
His upcoming movie — London-set horror Last Night in Soho — has had its release delayed from September to an unspecified date in 2021 due to the pandemic.
