Shia LaBeouf has set up an anti-Trump live-streaming project
Shia LaBeouf is never far away from making headlines for his often bizarre and amusing behaviour, but his latest project is surely his most ambitious yet.
The actor has embarked on a four-year project as a stance against Donald Trump becoming President by announcing his new long term initiative called HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US. Basically, it’s a live-stream video that’s been set up outside the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York.
LaBeouf and his collaborators on the project, Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner, began the stream from 9am on 20 January (Trump’s Inauguration Day), stating that it will remain there, broadcasting live and online to the world, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year, for the next four years.
The idea? Well, they want members of the public to tell the world (through the camea lens, that is) the phrase ‘HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US’ as many times as they can or wish to do so. It intends to show the globe that they are not impressed with Trump’s appointment to the White House, “as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.”
It’s not the first time that LaBeouf has involved himself in inventive or frankly odd art installations and interactional projects. In the past we’ve seen him make news with the likes of #ALLMYMOVIES – a 3-day event where he sat in a cinema and watched, you’ve guessed it, all of his own movies he’s appeared in, at New York’s Angelika Film Center.
But that was just one of several. Another, called #TOUCHMYSOUL saw the actor sat in FACT, Liverpool where he answered a telephone for five days straight to anyone that wished to call him, which was also alongside Rönkkö and Turner.
He also famously turned up the Berlin Film Festival for his film ‘Nymphomaniac’ with a paper bag over his head, with the words ‘I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE’.
LaBeouf has had a fairly quiet career over the past few years since breaking through with the likes of Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers’. Since starring in David Ayer’s 2014 war movie ‘Fury’, he’s only done a few features which were 2015’s ‘Man Down’ alongside Jai Courtney and Kate Mara, and last year’s acclaimed ‘American Honey’.

Oh, and just in case you’re thinking of splashing out on a plane ticket all the way to the US in the hope of hanging out with him, the bad news is Shia’s not always going to be there for the next four years.
