Seth Rogen says that his 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' will centre on the 'teenage' aspect
Thanks to Superbad, Seth Rogen knows a thing or two about teen movies.
And so, as he prepares to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, he's going to highling the teenage bit, he has revealed.
Speaking to Collider, he said: “As a lifelong fan of Ninja Turtles, weirdly the ‘Teenage’ part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always the part that stuck out to me the most.
“And as someone who loves teenage movies, and who’s made a lot of teenage movies, and who literally got their start in their entire profession by writing a teenage movie, the idea of kind of honing in on that element was really exciting to us.
“I mean, not disregarding the rest, but really using that as a kind of jumping off point for the film.”
It was announced last month that Rogen's Point Grey Pictures is to collaborate with Nickelodeon on the new animated reboot of the much explored comic book franchise.
Writing will be Brendan O'Brien, who penned bawdy Rogen comedy Neighbors, with Jeff Rowe behind the camera.
The movie follows the previous iteration of the 'heroes in a half shell', made by Paramount Pictures in 2014.
It found Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, and Pete Ploszek as Leonardo (voiced by Johnny Knoxville), all under heavy mo-cap gear, alongside Tony Shalhoub as the voice of Splinter, Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Tohoru Masamune as Splinter and William Fichtner as the evil Eric Sacks.
It made a respectable $493 million at the box office, but the 2016 sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, bombed, making $245 million but having cost $135 million (plus marketing).
A planned third movie was later scrapped.
