Scarlett Johansson is 'pushing' for the all-female Marvel movie

Last week, Brie Larson said that there had been a 'passionate' appeal to Marvel boss Kevin Feige to sort out an all-female Marvel movie.

And now, Scarlett Johansson has echoed her sentiments, saying that she's among those helping to push for it to happen.

“I don’t know what my future is in that world. Obviously, it’s a little more opaque for my character,” she told Variety.

“But that group of actresses is so incredibly powerful and when they come together, it’s explosive and unstoppable. So yes, I’m pushing for that. I think audiences want it and I’m definitely one of them.”

As she mentions, there are difficulties for Johansson's character personally.

Johansson's Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff, sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame so that the Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye could bring back the Soul Stone from the planet Vormir.

Though she is getting her own Black Widow movie, which wrapped this month, it will be set following the events of Captain America: Civil War.

So an all-female movie with Black Widow involved would have to squeeze into the pre-Endgame timeline somehow.

Larson, whose Captain Marvel movie (set in the 90s, before the first Iron Man movie, but after the period number Captain America: The First Avenger) introduced her character to the MCU, has told of how she and others have appealed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.

“I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this,'” she told Variety.

“What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”

Black Widow, also starring Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Rachel Weisz, is due out in May, 2020.
