His manager Matthew Sullivan announced that Vaughn passed away this morning at his home in New York surrounded by family, following a struggle with leukemia.
Vaughn starred alongside David McCallum in ‘The Man from UNCLE,’ which ran for 105 episodes between 1964 and 1968, and remained popular on television for decades thereafter. The duo also reunited on 1983 TV movie ‘Return of the Man from UNCLE.’
Beyond this, Vaughn also made some highly notable film credits. He was the last surviving member of ‘The Magnificent Seven,’ and reunited with co-star Steve McQueen on ‘Bullitt’ and ‘The Towering Inferno.’ He also earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in 1959’s ‘The Young Philadelphians.’
Vaughn also voiced the evil computer in ‘Demon Seed,’ played the villain in ‘Superman III,’ and teamed up with Lee Marvin and Chuck Norris in ‘The Delta Force.’
Later, the actor enjoyed a career resurgence with a role on BBC drama ‘Hustle.’
He had only recently completed work on his last two roles, with an appearance on ‘Law and Order: SVU’ and the movie ‘Gold Star.’
He is survived by his wife and two children, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies.
