'Retired' Cameron Diaz has no plans to return to making movies

Cameron Diaz won't be returning to a movie set any time soon, she has said.

Diaz, who was at one time arguably the biggest and most in-demand actress in Hollywood, hasn't appeared on screen since 2014's remake of Annie, in which she played the cruel foster home matron Ms Hannigan.

She told InStyle: “I started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that’s a long time. The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public.

“I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to re-organize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to. I don’t miss performing.

“Right now I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that. But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about — something that just feels effortless. At this point, I’ve done so much, I feel fulfilled with the adventures I’ve sought out in my life.”

Last year, Diaz revealed in a 'reunion' interview with her co-stars of The Sweetest Thing, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair, that she had retired, after Applegate said the same.

“I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies,” she said.

Diaz began modelling at 16 for the likes of Levis and Calvin Klein, before making her acting debut in The Mask opposite Jim Carrey.

She then made movies like There's Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, the Charlie's Angels reboots, Gangs of New York and the Shrek movies, in which she played Princess Fiona.

According to reports, because of the profit share deal she made for the comedy Bad Teacher, she made $42 million on that movie alone.

One senior writer for Entertainment Weekly said that the deal remains 'legendary' in movie industry circles.
