Rare Star Wars footage shows Gold Leader dropping an F-bomb
Star Wars Celebration 2017 revealed a lot about upcoming instalment ‘The Last Jedi’ but also treated fans to some classic tidbits, too.
The huge event that took place last weekend was not only a globally covered celebration, but it gave us our first glimpse at a ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ teaser trailer, as well as a touching tribute to the late Carrie Fisher.
One part of Star Wars Celebration 2017 was the airing of some ultra rare archival footage from the 1970s – specifically outtakes from the first film that very few people – let alone ‘Star Wars’ fans had ever seen.
One of the videos that got audiences laughing was one of the uncensored outtakes from ‘A New Hope’, which depicts a close-up of Gold Leader in his X-Wing.

F-bombs aren’t the sort of things we usually associate with ‘Star Wars’ – unless fans are headily debating the validity of Jar Jar Binks’ existence – so naturally a rapturous roar of laughter followed.
After the enormous success of JJ Abrams’ ‘The Force Awakens’ at the end of 2015, Christmas 2016 saw ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ experience a similar reception, despite not reaching the $2 billion mark as per its predecessor.
And now, for a third Christmas in a row, ‘Star Wars’ fans are in for yet another treat when ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ hits cinemas. Directed by ‘Looper’s’ Rian Johnson, the early footage and talk around it is certainly giving audiences reason for optimism.
While Gold Leader makes a welcomed return in ‘Rogue One’, albeit briefly, don’t expect him to be dropping profanity left, right, and centre. That said, the Gareth Edwards-directed spin-off is a particularly dark and grim tale of the rebels that embark on what is essentially a suicide mission to retrieve Death Star plans in order to foil the Emperor and explain that lingering plot hole where it was built with a trench-accessible weak spot – if you’re after a grittier and more morbid story in a galaxy far, far away, that is.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is out on DVD * Blu-ray now, with ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ in UK cinemas from 15 December.
