2022 Oscars: Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall confirmed as hosts

Comedic actors Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer have been confirmed as the co-hosts for the 94th Oscars ceremony.

Three years since the Academy Awards last had a host for the biggest night in showbiz, the Hollywood stars will be making history as the first female trio to take charge for the annual event.

It will be the first time either of the stars has been given the honour of hosting the glamorous ceremony and the show’s producer Will Packer promised viewers will be treated to several 'fun' surprises.

“This year’s show is all about uniting movie lovers. It’s apropos that we’ve lined up three of the most dynamic, hilarious women with very different comedic styles,” Packer said in a statement.

“I know the fun Regina, Amy and Wanda will be having will translate to our audience as well. Many surprises in store! Expect the unexpected!”

The hosting trio added: “We want people to get ready to have a good time. It’s been a while.”

It has been 35 years since as many as three people hosted the Oscars and it is expected that each actor will be responsible for one whole hour of the three-hour broadcast.

Hall has previously worked with producer Packer on hit films such as Girls Trip, Think Like a Man and Little.

Meanwhile, Schumer is best known for her roles in projects such as Trainwreck, I Feel Pretty and her stand-up special, Amy Schumer: Growing.

Emmy-winning comedian and writer Sykes’ credits include her stand-up special such as Wanda Sykes: Not Normal and her comedy series, The Upshaws.

Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich stated: “Imagine having one of the funniest women in comedy today hosting the Oscars... Now, multiply that by three.

“Regina, Amy and Wanda are comedy powerhouses who will make history as the first female trio to host the biggest night in entertainment, and we’re thrilled to have them at the helm to deliver an incredible show full of unforgettable moments and laughter.”

The 94th Oscars will take place on 27 March at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
