'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood' is now Quentin Tarantino's biggest UK box office movie

Quentin Tarantino now has a new bestselling movie in the UK.

The filmmaker’s latest movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has become his most successful movie at the British box office, earning a total of £16.3 million.

Now in its third week at the top of the UK box office, the film added £1.8 million to its total which, according to Screen Daily, was only down 14% on the previous weekend.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood took over from Django Unchained as Tarantino’s most successful film in the UK, which earned £15.7 million in 2013.

The film has so far made £235.4 million globally making it, so far, the third bestselling Tarantino movie of all time (not adjusted for inflation).

Django Unchained is still his biggest global box office hit earning £467.4 million with Inglourious Basterds in second place with £353.2 million.

Once Upon a Time stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio and is set in 1969’s Hollywood before the murder of Sharon Tate.

Margot Robbie plays the late screen star in the film, though its more of a supporting role and Tarantino explained how it differs from his other characters.

“I tried to not turn Sharon into a Quentin Tarantino character,” he told Paul Thomas Anderson on the DGA podcast.

“Rick’s a Quentin Tarantino character, Cliff’s a Quentin Tarantino character, even McQueen is a bit of a Quentin character.

“But in a way I didn’t want Sharon to be a character, I wanted her to be the person that she is.

“Now it’s only my interpretation of the person from what I’ve learned about it, and I’m definitely leaning in to the bright and the light stuff, but that really seems to be who she is.”

He added. “If there are other aspects of her out there I didn’t find it.”
