Olivia Colman and Richard E. Grant lead British 2019 Oscars nominees

The 2019 Oscars nominations were revealed on Tuesday morning and the Brits did pretty well.

Stars of The Favourite, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz, earned a nod in the Best Actress and Supporting Actress categories, respectively, with the British film securing ten nominations in total.

This is the first nomination for Colman, having just won the Golden Globe for the role of Queen Anne, while Weisz has previously won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2006 for The Constant Gardener.

The film’s screenwriters, Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, also picked up a nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Richard E. Grant celebrates his first ever Oscar nomination, earning the nod for his role as Jack in the dark comedy biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which he can celebrate with co-star and fellow nominee (for Best Actress) Melissa McCarthy.

Christian Bale is up for his fourth Oscar nomination for Best Actor after playing Dick Cheney in Vice, having previously won for The Fighter, in the Best Supporting Actor category in 2011, and nominated in the same category for The Big Short in 2016 and nominated for Best Actor in 2014 for American Hustle.

British film Bohemian Rhapsody also earned five nods, including Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Actor for Rami Malek.

The main ceremony takes place on Sunday, February 24 live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and will be broadcast in the UK on Sky Cinema Oscars (Sky channel 304) and NOW TV.
