New on Disney+ UK in May 2023: Best movies and TV from Ant-Man 3 to The Kardashians
New animated Star Wars offerings and a buzzy British rom-com lead the May Disney+ line-up
In May Disney+ is marking May the Fourth by releasing not one but two new Star Wars shows.
Elsewhere on the TV front, Everything Everywhere All At Once co-stars and recent first-time Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh reteam in American Born Chinese, an exhilarating original action series with a supernatural twist helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton.
And for mayhem of an altogether more Muppety variety, handily titled The Muppets Mayhem — an all-new series following The Electric Mayhem’s attempts to record their first studio album — is absolutely unmissable.

Movies coming to Disney+ UK in May 2023
Rye Lane | 3 May
David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah are Dom and Yas, two young adults recovering from messy break-ups, in Raine Allen-Miller’s razor sharp rom-com Rye Lane. As much a paean to Peckham and South London as it is to serendipity, romance, and the power of Salt’n’Pepa’s ‘Shoop’, Allen-Miller’s film - that rarest of beasts, a film critics and fans have agreed on - breathes new life into a genre that has long felt like a dying art. It also features a brilliantly punny cameo from a British rom-com legend, just in case you needed any more convincing.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania | 17 May
Kicking off Phase Five of the MCU, and rounding out Peyton Reed's Ant-Man trilogy, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finds Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), and the rest of the Ant-Fam stuck in the trippy microworld of the Quantum Realm. There, they square off against new big bad Kang (Jonathan Majors) while traversing a landscape that can only adequately be described as Spy Kids on steroids.
White Men Can't Jump | 19 May
White Men Can’t Jump is a modern remix of the iconic 1992 film that celebrates the streetball hustling culture of Los Angeles. Sinqua Walls stars as Kamal, once a promising player who derailed his future in the sport, and multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow makes his movie debut as Jeremy, a former star of the game whose injuries stalled his own career. Juggling tenuous relationships, financial pressures and serious internal struggles, the two ballers—opposites who are seemingly miles apart—find they might have more in common than they imagined possible.
Indiana Jones movie collection | 31 May
The full movie collection of Indiana Jones will be coming to the streaming platform on Wednesday, 31 May in anticipation of Harrison Ford's last outing as the titular character in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will all be coming to Disney+ for viewers to re-watch, or even discover for the first time, before the final instalment is released.

A Small Light | Two episodes weekly from 2 May
While the inspirational story of Anne Frank and her family has been told many times on both the big screen and small, few retellings have focused on or even significantly acknowledged Miep Gies, the young secretary who - alongside husband Jan - protected and hid the Franks for two years.

In this eight part limited series, Bel Powley (The Morning Show) leads a stellar ensemble featuring Joe Cole, Liev Schreiber, and Andy Nyman to help tell the remarkable true tale of a woman who displayed courage and defiance in the face of fascism and inhumanity.
Ed Sheeran: The Sum of it All | All episodes available 3 May
Part-concert film and part-docuseries, the cannily titled Ed Sheeran: The Sum of it All combines exclusive candid interviews, archival footage, and intimate musical performances courtesy of the Thinking Out Loud singer to chart the singer-songwriter’s rise from obscurity to global megastardom. Centring its focus on the recent death of Sheeran’s best friend and longtime collaborator Jamal Edwards, and his wife Cherry Seaborn’s tumour diagnosis during pregnancy, this promises to be a raw and honest account of a turbulent time and the music that it’s inspired.
Star Wars Visions S2 | All episodes available 4 May
Cybernetic Jedi, lightsaber wielding ronin, and intergalactic rockbands populated the visually striking first series of Star Wars Visions. And now the animated anthology series is back, with animation studios from around the world offering their own unique takes on that galaxy far, far away. Highlights from this nine-episode season include Screecher’s Reach, Cartoon Saloon’s Star Warsy idea of an Irish ghost story, and I Am Your Mother, which allows Chicken Run maestros Aardman to bring together two of our favourite things - podracing and claymation. Yippee!
Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures | All episodes available 4 May
With anticipation building for upcoming series The Acolyte, which is set during Star Wars’ High Republic era, this primarily youngling-targeted show is fans’ first chance to see an exciting new era represented on screen. Set 200 years before the Prequel Trilogy, at a time of peace during which the Jedi Order flourished, Young Jedi Adventures follows a group of wide-eyed padawans as their journey towards becoming Jedi Knights begins. Carrying moral lessons about the importance of compassion, teamwork, and patience, the Force is strong with this one.
The Muppets Mayhem | All episodes available 10 May
It’s hard to believe it’s been 45 years since Dr. Teeth, Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Janice, Lips, Zoot, and Animal - collectively known as The Electric Mayhem - first rocked out on our screens. It’s even harder yet to believe that somehow the greatest fictitious band in the world haven’t even recorded a debut album yet! But all that is about to change with The Muppets Mayhem.
Chronicling the band’s attempts to put together their first studio record, aided by determined A&R exec Nora (Lilly Singh), the series - which features cameos from Lil Nas X, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Danny Trejo, and more - will see the rockers come face-to-face with the realities of the modern music business.
American Born Chinese | All episodes available 24 May
Based on Gene Luen Yang’s brilliant same-named graphic novel, genre-mashing action comedy American Born Chinese centres around teenager Jin Wang (Ben Wang). Already struggling to balance his school and home life, things get even more out of control for Jin when he befriends a new Taiwanese student and finds himself embroiled in a battle with Chinese mythological gods. Led by Avengers: The Kang Dynasty director Destin Daniel Cretton, Lucy Liu, and an all-star ensemble including Ke Huy Quan, Michelle Yeoh, and Stephanie Hsu, this has everything, everywhere all at once and then some.
The Kardashians S3 | Weekly from 25 May
The cameras return as Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie invite viewers back into their lives as they navigate motherhood, coparenting, and building their own empires. Their bond will be tested and tensions arise, but as a family they will stand together through the storm.
