Yahoo Movies Sydney Sweeney addresses Madame Web box office flop
Madame Web actress Sydney Sweeney has responded to the movie bombing at the box office.
The film, in which Sweeney stars as Julia Cornwall (aka Spider-Woman), has been listed as one of the worst superhero movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes after being slated by critics.
This critical reception has translated into disappointing ticket sales, with Madame Web grossing just $17.6 million in its opening weekend and a mere $25.8 million over a six-day period, despite costing over $80 million to make.

However, Sweeney doesn't seem too fazed about the film's reception, given the Euphoria star told LA Times: "I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen."
Madame Web sees Dakota Johnson take on the role of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who uses her newfound ability to see into the future to protect three young women (including Sweeney's Julia) from villain Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim).
Earlier this month, Johnson said that she's "not surprised" about the film's negative reception.

"It's so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made — and it's even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what's really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it's made by committee," she shared.
"Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms."
Elsewhere, Sweeney is set to make her scream queen debut in upcoming horror movie Immaculate on March 22. She'll star as an American nun who embarks on a new journey in a remote convent in the Italian countryside, before discovering that her new home has a dark secret.
Madame Web is out now in cinemas.
