New 28 Days Later movie gets exciting update
The upcoming 28 Days Later sequel 28 Years Later has been given two exciting updates.
The new project forms the first part of a new trilogy of movies, and producer Andrew Macdonald has revealed that the first film has now finished production.
“We’re making, hopefully, three more 28 films with the first one called 28 Years Later that Alex [Garland] has written, and Danny [Boyle] has directed, and has finished shooting,” he said at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter).

He also confirmed that the second movie has now begun filming, teasing: “Then we’re just about to start, tomorrow morning, actually, part two. And then we hope there’s going to be a third part and it’s a trilogy.”
The new movies were confirmed back in January this year, with Boyle set to direct the first and Garland returning to write. Candyman’s Nia DaCosta is helming the now-in-production second instalment.
Cillian Murphy is back as Jim, while the sequel will see several new stars join the franchise – notably Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, Kraven the Hunter’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, The Menu’s Ralph Fiennes and Back to Black’s Jack O’Connell.

Comer spoke back in May about joining the project, telling Total Film: "Having met Danny [Boyle], he's incredibly sure and confident and innovative. As an actor, to be on a set with someone like that who's leading the charge is so exciting.
"I remember seeing 28 Days Later and I was so struck with how it was so rooted in reality, and it was more about the exploration of us as a species and our behaviour and how we react.
"It felt like there was a lot of emotional truth within the film that really anchored it. That's also what I felt when I read this script."
28 Years Later is released in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
