Mira Sorvino has revealed that a casting director gagged her with a condom in an audition when she was 16.
The actress said that she was going for a role in a horror movie when it happened.
Speaking in an interview for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s HFPA In Conversation podcast, she said that the casting director wanted her to be scared in the audition, and so tied her to a chair, bruising her arm, and then gagged her with what she later was told was a condom.
“And at the end he takes the gag out of my mouth and he said, ‘Sorry for the prophylactic,’ so he had gagged me with a condom,” Sorvino said.
“I was too young to even know, thank god, what a condom tasted like. It was so inappropriate, and what the heck was a casting director doing with a condom in his pocket in an audition?”
She also spoke about another incident with a famous director ‘known for his social justice profile’, but who she did not name, who propositioned her at audition.
Sorvino claims that the director said to her: “’You know, as I look at you my mind can’t help but traveling from the artistic possibilities to the sexual.’”
“In my mind, the thing going on in my head, was ‘Oh, I thought this was a legitimate meeting.’ I thought this was an actual, you had me here, because you thought I was talented or that I brought something that would be good for this role,” she continued.
“Not that you were were here fishing to see if I was going to have an affair with you. I know for a fact that’s why I didn’t get that part.”
Sorvino is among the women who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, and recently spoke on US TV about how she feels now that the movie producer has been indicted.
“It feels like a really good first step, you know?” she told the Today show.

“It’s him finally facing real, real criminal consequences for his criminal behaviour. And so for that, I feel gratified. But honestly, last weekend was a very emotional one, and I cried many times, because just seeing him brings up a lot of bad feelings.
“He’s raped many people that I love, so it’s not really a happy occasion. I think maybe there will be some celebration when he gets convicted and goes to jail. That’s when the process will be complete and we will see justice really being served. But until then, this is a great first step.”
