Melissa McCarthy Would Do ‘102 More’ Ghostbusters Movies
They may have a vocal contingent of fandom betting against them, but it would seem Melissa McCarthy and her ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot co-stars are in this for the long haul.
McCarthy tells The Hollywood Reporter, “I would do 102 more of these. I will literally show up for [director] Paul Feig and these women no matter what. I’ll show up for plays in a backyard.“
Her co-star Leslie Jones concurs: “As many as they do, I’m there.”
It’s unsurprising McCarthy would show such loyalty to Feig, as it was her supporting role in the director’s 2011 comedy ‘Bridesmaids’ - alongside fellow newbie Ghostbuster Kristen Wiig - that made her a star.
Feig has since cast her alongside Sandra Bullock in cop comedy ‘The Heat,’ and in the lead role of last year’s ‘Spy.’
Still, it may be overly optimistic to talk of ‘Ghostbusters’ sequels at this point, given the overwhelmingly negative buzz around the film, mostly from overzealous fans of the 1984 original.
Kristin Wiig recently attempted to calm the waters, stating to EW, “You can’t get better than the original. But it’s a different movie, it’s a different cast, it’s many years later, and we’ve also done things that are different. It’s not just about it starring women.”
We’ll soon see whether or not ‘Ghostbusters’ can live up to the original, as it’s out in UK cinemas on 11 July.
