Matthew McConaughey To Teach Filmmaking Class At University of Texas

Having successfully won a slew of awards and navigated his career back to the top of the Hollywood food chain, actor Matthew McConaughey is set to take a step in a perhaps unexpected direction.

It has been announced that the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Oscar-winner and ‘True Detective’ Emmy-winner will be a guest lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, where he himself was formerly a student.

McConaughey will be teaching the filmmaking class along with his 'Free State of Jones’ director Gary Ross.

While the course will partially be based around behind the scenes videos from the set of the new film, McConaughey will be there in person for “at least one on-campus visit,” sources tell My San Antonio.

The course in the autumn will be the second time McConaughey has contributed to the class, which also ran during spring 2016 semester, for which students were required to sign a nondisclosure form as 'Free State of Jones’ was still in production.

In any case, the actor is said to be no stranger to the Austin campus; reportedly he’s a regular at college football games, and often gives pep talks to the team.

McConaughey graduated the University of Texas at Austin College of Communication with a BA Hons in Radio, Film and Television in 1993 - the same year he landed his breakout role in Richard Linklater’s 'Dazed and Confused.’
