Matt Damon's magnificent mullet steals the show in the first trailer for 'The Last Duel'
Watch: The Last Duel trailer
The first trailer for Sir Ridley Scott's new historical epic The Last Duel has arrived, and nothing quite stands out more than Matt Damon's blonde mullet.
The 50-year-old actor leads an all-star cast in the period thriller set amidst the Hundred Years War, playing a Norman squire who fights for justice after his wife (Jodie Comer) is assaulted by Adam Driver's character.
Based on true events, The Last Duel tracks the final sanctioned duel in France, with the two former friends turning into enemies as Carrouges’ wife Marguerite demands the truth be known.
Joining them in the cast is Ben Affleck as Count Pierre d’Alençon.
However, on the release of the brutal first trailer, it was the many hair choices on display that got people talking.
While Driver maintains his trademark shaggy black hair, Affleck is seen with a bleach blonde hair bowl cut with matching goatee, and Damon sports a drastically cut shoulder length mullet with a short fringe.
Viewers of the trailer were therefore somewhat divided about how they felt about the choice, taking to Twitter to vent their confusion and frustration.
“I mean…I LOVE JODIE COMER and would love to watch her in #TheLastDuel BUT all I could think watching the trailer was: Is that Matt Damon…WITH A MULLET?” wrote one fan.
Another joked: “Why does Matt Damon have a mullet? When does Adam Driver find the time? Why is Ben Affleck incognito as a blonde internet influencer?”
While a third said of Affleck’s hair choice: “Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up? Also, the lead singer of Metallica wants his facial hair back.”

The synopsis reads: “When etiquette, social aspirations and justice were driven by the codes of chivalry, the consequences for defying the institutions of the time – the Church, the nobility at court, a teenage king – could be severe.
“For a woman navigating these violent times, one who had no legal standing without the support of her husband, the stakes were even higher."
Speaking about the film, producer and director Ridley Scott says: “I love working with Matt, so it was an added bonus to be able to work with him and Ben as both actors and as screenwriters, along with Nicole Holofcener, and I knew it would be a great result.

“I had admired the show Killing Eve, and had been looking for the opportunity to present Jodie Comer with a challenging role. Her performance as Marguerite will make her one of the great actresses of her generation.”
The Last Duel is released in cinemas on 15 October.
