The Marvels has landed in cinemas, and long-time fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are no doubt wondering if the film has post-credit scenes.

Starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani as Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, the film centres on their characters teaming up to take down Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), a Kree who is trying to save her home planet by wreaking havoc across the galaxy.

Here is everything you need to know about the film's post-credit scenes, however be warned that there are major spoilers ahead.

How many post-credit scenes does The Marvels have?

The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani as Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan and follows their characters as they try to stop villain Dar-Benn (Zawe Asthon).

The Marvels has only one post-credit scene, unlike the majority of Marvel movies that have tended to have two — a mid-credit and end-credit scene.

For The Marvels the post-credit scene is shown mid-credits, though there is a funny thing that happens if viewers stick around til the end.

After the credits have rolled, viewers will hear the Flerken cats that featured in the movie meowing and making other funny noises.

The Marvels post-credit scene centres on Monica who is lost in an alternate universe (Marvel)

The post-credit scene for The Marvels centres on Monica, who wakes up in a hospital bed after becoming trapped in an alternate universe after the events of the movie.

She wakes to find her mother Maria (Lashana Lynch) watching her, and immediately breaks down in tears and shares how much she missed and loves her.

Maria is clearly confused by the exchange though, and then is when Dr Hank McCoy, aka Beast, comes in (voiced by X-Men: The Last Stand's Kelsey Grammer) and they discuss the readings from tests conducted on Monica, who they realise is from a different version of Earth which Hank claims is impossible.

Hank mentions Professor X wants to see Monica and Maria is seen in full costume, her superhero suit giving away that she is Binary from the Marvel Comics. Upon realising her situation she simply says "s**t".

Who is Binary?

The post credit scene sees Lashana Lynch (pictured in Captain Marvel) return, this time as a superhero known as Binary (Marvel)

The Maria in the version of Earth that Monica ended up has had a very different story, and her character journey has seen her take on the mantle of Binary (In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the character was shown as Captain Marvel).

Binary is an energy duplicate of Captain Marvel, the character was first introduced in Marvel Comics as an alternate identity for the superhero in Uncanny X-Men and she has since appeared in the Captain Marvel comics as a new character.

What critics thought of The Marvels

The new version of Binary is depicted as mute in the comics —something that has been changed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe— and she was originally created by Captain Marvel by shaping her energy into a copy of herself.

It is currently unclear whether Maria's character is a version of the character who took the name Binary instead of Captain Marvel, or whether she is a duplicate of Carol Danvers.
