Makers Of Birdman Scrapped 'Embarrassing' Ending Starring Johnny Depp
Alejandro GonzálezIñárritu’s Oscar-bait movie ‘Birdman’ is quite meta enough, you might have gathered, but an ending the filmmakers decided to scrap –featuring Johnny Depp – would have really taken it up a notch.
Iñárritu himself has referred to the abandoned conclusion in interviews, telling Indiewire that it was ‘a piece of s**t’.

He wouldn’t divulge the details of why it was so bad, but now the movie’s co-writer Alex Dinelaris has saved him the shame.
Dinelaris penned the movie, about washed up actor Riggan Thomson - played by Michael Keaton - trying to stage a comeback, along with Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone and Armando Bo, and told all to the Q&A Podcast.
“We had one other ending, that was satirical,” he said.
“The camera prowled like it did the whole film, went backstage through the halls we’ve seen the whole time.
“We’d get to the dressing room where literally Johnny Depp would be sitting looking in the mirror, putting on his Riggan Thomson wig, and then the poster of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ would be in the back.
“In Jack Sparrow’s voice [we hear], ‘What the f*** are we doing here, mate?’ And [it] was going to be the satire of the endless loop of that.”
Whether they’d approached Depp to be in the movie is not known. But we can’t help thinking he’d have been well up for it.
The film has trawled itself nine nominations at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
Keaton has already won Best Actor at the Golden Globes for his performance.
