Watch the stylish first teaser for Last Night In Soho
Seventeen years after the release of the game changing Shaun of the Dead, director Edgar Wright is returning to the horror genre with his new film Last Night In Soho.
Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the twisty new London-set thriller, which stars Thomasin McKenzie, Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith, and Wright's fans are already hailing the film as a masterpiece.
The psychological horror, Wright’s first big screen feature since Baby Driver in 2017, follows a young fashion designer named Eloise, played by McKenzie, who goes back to the 1960s while on a trip to central London.
Set to an atmospheric, slowed down version of 'Downtown' by Petula Clark, the two-minute trailer sees Eloise encounter Sandy, her glamorous idol, played by The Queen’s Gambit star Taylor-Joy. But all is not what it seems and Eloise is soon hunted by mysterious creatures.

Doctor Who star Matt Smith also appears as Jack, although little is revealed about his character.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was quick to praise the trailer on Twitter, sharing his anticipation for the film with his 900k followers.

James Bond fans were also thrilled to spot a huge poster for 1965's Thunderball take centre stage early on in the trailer.
Astutely starring both Bond's wife & golden girl in their final amazing roles, Mr. Wright's LAST NIGHT IN SOHO underlines the creator's 007 love in a warped love letter to the home of Britain's 1960s style, vice & movies....https://t.co/H3KtYlWOQx#LastNightinSoho #EdgarWright pic.twitter.com/VfuRWOVBKK

Last Night In Soho looks great. I'm excited about it!
This is one of many shots I love. Yes, it's a Bond poster, but I ALSO like the golden tone.
Diana Rigg is in this. She was also in a different Bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, opposite Lazenby's Bond! That's fun! pic.twitter.com/ohR8FpsSym— Wez (@Wezzer1993) May 26, 2021
Last Night In Soho marks a change in direction for director, screenwriter and producer Wright, who made his name with comedies such as Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
It's co-written by 1917's Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who promised Yahoo in 2019 that Wright's fans wouldn't be disappointed by the director's apparent change in direction.

“[Last Night in Soho] is fun, it’s dark, it’s twisted, it’s thrilling, it’s everything you want from an Edgar Wright movie, and something really different,” the screenwriter told Yahoo.

“I’ve seen early cuts of it and I was blown away by it.”
It also marks the final film appearance of Dame Diana Rigg, who stars as Miss Collins. She died in September 2020 aged 82.
Wright has previously said he was inspired by horror films such as Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion.
Last Night In Soho is released on 29 October.
