Kick-Ass reboot: Release date, cast, trailer and plot as Matthew Vaughn reveals third film plans
Matthew Vaughn spoke about the project at New York Comic Con
Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass movies ushered in a dark new era for the superhero genre, and left a legacy that has been picked up by the likes of The Boys and Invincible.
The ultra-violent movie and its 2013 sequel followed Aaron Taylor-Johnson's titular character, and his gruesome crime-fighting adventures with other foul-mouthed heroes like Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz).

Now Vaughn is ready to return to the world he first began in 2010, only things will be a little different this time around as the filmmaker revealed new details at New York Comic Con (NYCC) in October.
Here is everything that we know so far about the Kick-Ass reboot.
Kick Ass reboot plot
In an interview with SyFy Wire, Vaughn teased that the Kick-Ass reboot would have "the spirit of the first Kick-Ass done in a modern way."
The first film sees teen Dave Lizewski (Taylor-Johnson) set out to become a superhero and dubs himself Kick-Ass, and along the way he meets Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) and Hit Girl, and they work together to take down crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong) and his son.

Vaughn told the publication the reboot "is like nothing that’s ever been done on film before", and he added: “Which is very, very exciting. Because I felt with Kick-Ass, I would like to make a Kick-Ass 3 with those characters but I think we just need to use a sorbet shall we say to cleanse everyone’s palate, remind everyone that Kick-Ass is crazy and different.
"This movie will be talked about like, everyone like 'What did they go and do?'"
Exact details of the plot beyond this have not yet been revealed, and since Vaughn only just confirmed that work is underway on the reboot it may be some time before fans will know more about the plot.
Kick-Ass reboot cast
The cast for the film's reboot has not yet been confirmed, however there is one thing that we do know: The original characters will not be back, not yet anyway.
Speaking at a panel at NYCC, Vaughn told the audience: "Kick-Ass changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is. We’re doing it again.
"None of the other characters from the other Kick-Ass are in it, though we’d like to have them back after the reboot. I can’t really talk about it, but it’s fun!"
Further casting details have not yet been revealed for the superhero reboot.
Kick-Ass reboot release date
The reboot has not yet been given a release date, and it may be some time before viewers are able to see the film as Vaughn is currently working on Argylle — the film is set to be released in 2024.
At his panel at NYCC, Vaughn also teased that he is working on an untitled musical film and this appears to be his next project before the Kick-Ass reboot, though this may turn out not to be the case.
Is there a trailer for the Kick-Ass reboot?
As filming is not yet underway there is no footage to speak of and, therefore, no trailer yet.
