According to legendary producer Frank Marshal, the upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ sequel has found its director – Juan Antonia Bayona.

“Thrilled to announce JA Bayona is on board to direct JW2,” he said via Twitter. “Welcome to the team @FilmBayona

Juan Antonia Bayona (more commonly known as J.A. Bayona) is a 40-year-old Spanish film director, most famous for his 2007 horror, ‘The Orphanage’. His most recent work includes the 2012 drama, ‘The Impossible’ starring Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts and Tom Holland.

And he’ll be working closely with ‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow.

“Proud to collaborate with one of my favorite filmmakers on the next Jurassic adventure,” Trevorrow said via Twitter as he handed over the reins. “JA Bayona, it’s all yours.”

Of course, the success of ‘Jurassic World’ included a phenomenal box office run – earning Universal Pictures a staggering $1.67 billion worldwide. But while Trevorrow would be the obvious choice to return to the director’s chair, he’s going to be rather busy with ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’.

And this has opened up the opportunity of a lifetime for J.A. Bayona.

Bayona’s next film is ‘A Monster Calls’, a dark fantasy based on the Patrick Ness children’s novel. And now it looks as though he’s set to take control of ‘Jurassic World 2’.

But what will he bring to Islar Nublar?

Unfortunately, details of the upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ sequel remain tightly under wraps. But as reported by The Wrap back last year, we’ll see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return to the island. And with the incredibly talented J.A. Bayona at the helm, it promises to be quite a spectacle.

‘Jurassic World 2’ heads to cinemas on 8 June 2018.
