Jon Favreau reckons it's 'a matter of time' before his 'Mandalorian' characters turn up in 'Star Wars'

With The Mandalorian unfolding a new world in the Star Wars universe, director and showrunner Jon Favreau reckons his characters won't be restricted to the Outer Rim.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Favreau says that its very possible that some of them could cross the rubicon into the Star Wars movies.

“There's definitely the opportunity to explore these characters beyond what we've presented on the show,” he said.

“There's a very fluid line between what's in the movie theaters and what's on the screen at home. It's very exciting for me because I get to tell stories over the course of several hours and not just within the footprint of one theater-going experience.

“I think it's only a matter of time before we cross paths the other way.”

It is indeed highly unlikely that Disney won't be interested in further capitalising on the show's runaway star, the so-called 'Baby Yoda'.

The plot of the series so far has centred on Pedro Pascal's bounty hunter and his unlikely bond with the young creature – not actually baby Yoda, but a young creature of the same species.

The character has already become a huge meme, taking on an online life of its own.

Favreau also spoke about how he persuaded Disney to keep the the character secret, and not tie it in with the show's pre-launch marketing.

“I think that part of what people really value is to be surprised and delighted, and I think that's becoming all too rare. It's very difficult to keep secrets about projects you're working on,” he added.

“By holding back on that one product, we knew that we may have had the disadvantage of not having toys available day and date, but what we got in exchange was an excitement surrounding the character, because everybody felt like they discovered him together. That emulated more what my experience growing up was like.”

Sadly, we won't get the show in the UK until Disney+ arrives in March, 2020.
