John Candy’s Lookalike Kids Forging Show Business Careers
It’s been over 20 years since John Candy died from a heart attack in 1994 aged just 43, but his comedy legacy endures and his incredible filmography continues to delight film fans of all ages around the world. His entertaining genes seem to have been passed to his children too.
His improv roots were recently honoured by Second City Toronto when the legendary comedy venue unveiled the new John Candy Box Theatre and his daughter Jen - also a stand up comic - spoke to ET Online to pay tribute to her “loveable” father.
Watch the interview below.
Jen, who was just 14 when her father passed away, describes the moment she learned of his death in Mexico while filming Western parody ‘Wagon’s East!’ as “gut-wrenching”.
She says her father didn’t want her or her brother Chris to follow in his footsteps, telling her “no, don’t do into the business”, but she feels like he’d have embraced her decision to become a stand-up had he lived to see it.
Her brother Chris, now 30, is an actor and musician with a number of IMDB credits to his name and his physical resemblance to the ‘Cool Runnings’ star is fairly startling.
