John Boyega dismisses Samuel L. Jackson's black British actors remarks

John Boyega has responded furiously to Samuel L. Jackson’s recent comments about the “abundance” of black British actors that he believes have taken roles from their African-American counterparts.

The ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ actor took to Twitter to post a simple retort to Jackson’s comments, which immediately made it known where he stood on the matter.

Samuel L. Jackson kick started this back and forth when, during his interview on US radio station Hot 97, he questioned why British actor Daniel Kaluuya had been cast in the lead role in ‘Get Out’, which sees an African-American man meeting his white girlfriend’s parents.

Jackson at first insisted that he thinks “it’s great that movie’s doing everything it’s doing and people are loving it,” before then adding, “But … I know the young brother who’s in the movie, and he’s British. I tend to wonder what that movie would have been with an American brother who really feels that.”

“Daniel grew up in a country where they’ve been interracial dating for a hundred years. What would a brother from America have made of that role? Some things are universal but (not everything is).”

In recent years, British actors David Oyelowo and Chiwetel Ejiofor were cast in the leading roles in ‘Selma’ and ‘12 Years A Slave,’ while John Boyega is set to reprise his role as Finn in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ right at the end of this year.

You can see Samuel L. Jackson much sooner than that, though, because he is in ‘Kong: Skull Island’, which will be in cinemas from tomorrow.
