Jimmy Kimmel reveals how much he's getting paid for hosting the Oscars
Jimmy Kimmel has revealed how much he’s getting paid to host the Oscars this year… and it’s really not as much as you might think.
The late night talk show star was appearing as a guest on the ‘Kevin & Bean’ show on US radio station KROQ when he dropped the details of his pay cheque.
And the grand sum is… $15,000. That’s just shy of £12,000.
“I think it’s illegal to pay nothing,” he joked.
“I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this. But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault.
“They asked like 14 people and they all said no and then there was me. I absolutely was surprised.”
He’s already joked that the Oscars organisers have chosen him out of convenience.
He opened his show on Monday night saying: “The producers and the Academy went through a long list of names, and in the end, they decided that – since I am already right across the street from where they do the show – I was the closest person to host.”
Kimmel follows comedian Chris Rock in hosting the most prestigious awards show in the movie calendar, and Neil Patrick Harris before him.
The nominations for the 89th awards are announced on January 24, with the show taking place on February 26 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
