“It’s a great honor to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life,” said Jagger.

There's no word yet on who will play the 'Godfather of Soul' himself, but there's talk of who will direct.

Tate Taylor, who helmed the Oscar-winning 'The Help', is said to be in talks for the job.

The project has been in production for a number of years, with Brown himself being involved before he died in 2006.

The plot will revolve around the singer's childhood overcoming a violent and poverty stricken upbringing in South Carolina to become the world's biggest soul star.
