Jack Whitehall surprises fans with American accent in 'Clifford The Big Red Dog' trailer
Jack Whitehall has surprised fans with his new role in kids' movie, Clifford The Big Red Dog, complete with an American accent.
The stand-up and Brit Awards host stars in the upcoming feel-good movie as the guardian of a young girl, who wakes up to find her red dog has shot up to a gigantic size.
The trailer, released today, sees Whitehall being thrown around a room by the excitable pup, before walking it around New York with his young co-star, Darby Camp.

However, viewers who are used to the British star’s distinctive accent have been left divided by Whitehall’s attempt at an accent change.
“Jack Whitehall with an American accent is messing with my brain big time it cannot comprehend,” wrote one fan.
A far more skeptical second viewer of the trailer added: “Of the things I thought might ruin my day, one I didn't consider was Jack Whitehall doing an American accent.”
“It says a lot about me that while watching that trailer for Clifford The Big Red Dog, the part i found most unrealistic was Jack Whitehall's American accent…,” added a third.
Others believe the star is heading in a similar career trajectory to James Corden, who after finding fame in the UK thanks to shows including Gavin and Stacey, is now a talk show host in the States.
Corden also starred in a series of kids movies, most notably the live-action version of Peter Rabbit.
His new role is the latest in a growing string of Hollywood movies for the comedian, who also stars in the long held-off Disney adventure, Jungle Cruise, alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
What is Clifford The Big Red Dog about?
Clifford follows the story of middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp), whose life changes when she meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy.
Being told that he will grow depending on how much she loves him, Emily Elizabeth wakes up one day to find Clifford grown into a ten-foot hound.
