Idris Elba: I’m “Too Old” To Be James Bond

Idris Elba has, for the umpteenth time, been asked about whether or not he’ll play James Bond, and the actor seems to definitively rule himself out - but not on racial grounds.

Speaking to Good Morning America, the 43-year old actor sighs, “if I’m really honest man, I think I’m too old for that man, running around in cars and ladies and martinis.

"Who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”

We think there’s at least a hint of sarcasm there.

Elba calls his Bond link "the wildest rumour in the world… I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there hasn’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that.

“But everywhere I go people want that to happen.”

Elba was at one point the bookie’s favourite to take over from Daniel Craig - who, we should point out, has not officially abdicated the role of 007 yet, despite strong rumours that he’s done with it after last year’s ‘Spectre.’

More recently, Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner and James Norton have been hotly tipped for the role, with Jack Huston recently emerging as a possible contender - all of whom are indeed a bit younger than Elba, being in their mid-30s.

Elba, meanwhile, will next be seen (under heavy prosthetics) as the alien bad guy in 'Star Trek Beyond,’ opening 22 July.
