Hugh Grant declares Paddington 2 was the 'best film' he's ever been in
Hugh Grant has claimed that Paddington 2 is the best film he’s appeared in.
Grant, whose acting credits include a number of iconic movies such as Notting Hill, Four Weddings and A Funeral and Love Actually, expressed his delight over his role in the children’s film.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Grant, who played the role of Phoenix Buchanan in the sequel about the bear who has a penchant for marmalade, said: “I was presenting I think at the Golden Globes, and they do that thing when you walk out, and they say, ‘From the forthcoming Paddington 2, Hugh Grant’.

“And someone showed me Twitter afterwards, and it was…people were full of derision.”
After recalling what the reaction was like from fans, Grant added: “It’s particularly annoying in the case of Paddington 2, because I genuinely believe it may be the best film I’ve ever been in.”
Whilst Grant was more than happy to step into the role of Buchanan, the approach to get the actor to take on the character, was pretty unconventional.
Revealing the letter he wrote to Grant about the film’s villains, director Paul King told the publication: “[Grant] seemed to have sort of retired at the time.
“We wrote this very awkward letter— ‘We’ve come up with this role, of a kind of vain, washed-up old ham, whose best days are sort of behind him, his lips are sort of heading south along with his jawline, and we thought of you’.
“Luckily he saw the funny side.”
Following Paddington 2’s release, the film received three BAFTA nominations in 2018.
Along with a nomination for Grant in the Best Supporting Actor category, the film also received nods for Outstanding British Film of the Year and Best Screenplay (Adapted).
