The biggest Hollywood flops of 2016 revealed

The biggest cinematic flops of 2016 so far have been revealed, and it turns out that it hasn’t been a great year for comedies.

The genre makes up half of the entries on the list, however top place is reserved for a superhero film that somehow managed to flop even though all of its peers are currently thriving. Here’s a rundown of the 10 biggest flops of 2016, courtesy of Forbes, excluding November and December releases.

10. ‘Masterminds’ – Box office: $22m, Budget: $25m

9. ‘Snowden’ – Box office: $34.3m, Budget: $40m

8. ‘Grimsby’ – Box office: $28.7m, Budget: $35m

7. ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ – Box office: $24.9m, Budget: $35m

6. ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’ – Box office: $26.9, Budget: $40m

5. ‘Ratchet & Clank’ – Box office: $11.8m, Budget: $20m

4. ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ – Box office: $16.4m, Budget: $28m

3. ‘Popstar: Never Stop Stopping’ – Box office: $9.5m, Budget: $20m

2. ‘Free State of Jones’ – Box office: $23.2m, Budget: $50m

1. ‘Max Steel’ – Box office: $4.4m, Budget: $10m

Based on the Mattel toy, ‘Max Steel’ might have only cost $10.4 million to make but thanks to its repeatedly delayed release, lack of star appeal and publicity, and negative reviews, it immediately tanked upon its release in August.

Zach Galifianakis had a bit of a stinker, too, as both ‘Masterminds’ and ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’ failed to find an audience, while Matthew McConaughey, Andy Samberg, Tina Fey & Margot Robbie, Sacha Baron Cohen, and both Joseph Gordon Levitt and Oliver Stone also saw their reputations take a hit, too, as their respective releases floundered.

Come the end of the year ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ and ‘Rules Don’t Apply’ could be in contention to join the list, too, as they’ve both struggled at the box office since the turn of November, while Paramount have allegedly already taken a $115 million hit on ‘Monster Trucks’, as they’ve accepted that it’s turgid.
