HBO responds to the 'Game of Thrones' coffee cup bungle
Now that coffee is being served in the great hall at Winterfell, it appears that HBO is having its say on the matter.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted from Monday’s show that during the banquet scene, in some rather stark contrast to Tormund Giantsbane’s horn-based receptacle, Emilia Clark’s Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, appeared to be enjoyed a latte.

It went viral in seconds, some disappearing down the conspiracy rabbit hole, insisting that the cup was from Starbucks – who even weighed in too – and that it was some kind of covert product placement.
But it appears that it was merely a beverage from the show’s craft services, and now there’s an amusing statement to punctuate the bungle.
But the memes remain robust, nonetheless.

How it managed to turn up on screen is another matter, however, with one veteran TV producer noting the levels of production the scene would have gone through.
This is a production screwup, but those things often happen in the rush of shooting. This is really a Post-Production fail. With much time, how no editor, asst. editor, VFX editor, showrunner, producer, studio or network exec identified it and marked it for removal is surprising. https://t.co/eQWW5MJGtX

While the actors and director may have missed it in the moment, it is indeed pretty stunning that it wasn’t then noticed and digitally erased after the fact.
The penultimate episode of the last ever series of Game of Thrones’ lands on Monday on Sky Atlantic.
