Gadgets may have been a way of life for his most famous character, but former James Bond star Daniel Craig would be more than happy to give up the most familiar of the lot: his mobile phone.
In a new interview with Yahoo UK ahead of the Netflix release of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Craig revealed that his sympathies lie with a character in the film who deliberately doesn’t own a mobile.
“I’d be so happy to give mine up,” he admitted. “I think about throwing it away every day. I wish we could!”

The follow up to 2019's Knives Out sees Craig reprising his role as legendary detective Benoit Blanc and is re-united with director/writer Rian Johnson, who helmed the original.
The Last Jedi director, however, has more of a love/hate relationship with his mobile, preferring something more retro. “I wish we could get back to landlines,” he said.
“I love having this device I can do all these things on, but I know my life would be so much healthier if I chucked it away. I’d just have a fax machine. And an old green plastic landline.”

In the film, Blanc returns to solve a complicated mystery surrounding tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and his group of eccentric friends. Bron invites them all to his Greek hideaway through a series of intricate puzzles and, when what is supposed to be a practical joke turns deadly serious, it’s down to Blanc to solve his most baffling mystery yet.
Among the star studded ensemble is Janelle Monae who plays a fellow tech maven who was wronged by Bron in the past. Monae admits she is tempted to get rid of her mobile, but feels there needs to be balance in the way they’re used. “If it could fly off into space somewhere, that would be great,” she explained.
“I personally think cell phones are stressful but if I didn’t have one, my family and friends would worry. I delete apps off my phone and I keep it really simple and try not to go on social media a lot. You want to stay present. You don’t want to miss the moment of actually just being here and having an experience.”

Like Craig, co-star Kate Hudson would love to throw away her phone. “If somebody said ‘everything’s going to exist as it is, but you get to throw your phone away’, I’d be saying goodbye to my phone,” she said. “I’ve love not to have one. I think all of the anxiety that so many of us feel is because of these tablets.”
Madelyn Cline, who plays influencer Whiskey in the film, has tried doing without her phone and describes it as “nice and it feels very quiet, but whenever I lose my phone or it’s broken, or I don’t have access to my usual lines of communication with people, I feel really, really anxious.”

But Jessica Henwick, who plays Peg a put-upon PS, agrees that her phone is essential for her job, and revealed that she doesn’t find it hard to do without one. “I did a 14-day phone purge about two years ago, and that felt amazing.”
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has already received a number of award nominations, including two from the Golden Globes – Best Motion Picture (musical or comedy) and Best Actor (musical or comedy) for Craig.
Work on what is currently known as Knives Out 3 is already under way with Johnson once again at the helm and, although the release date hasn’t been revealed, another outing for Craig as Benoit Blanc is confirmed. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced, although chances are there’ll be a whole new line-up.
