Sterling K. Brown says his musical number was cut from 'Frozen 2'
This Is Us Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown is one of the most high-profile additions to the cast of Frozen 2, Disney's eagerly anticipated follow-up to the 2013 animated sensation. But unlike Evan Rachel Wood you won't hear Brown bellowing out tunes in the film.
"I do not sing in the film, but I had to sing for the audition because there was a song that I was going to sing that ultimately they felt didn't fit in with the story," Brown revealed to Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
Brown plays Lt. Destin Mattias, a high-ranking officer in an Arendelle military battalion that has been trapped in an enchanted forest for years and whom Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) encounter in the sequel.
The actor shared some details about the cut sequence: "It was about when they first meet, when they get to the enchanted forest and he meets them," he explained.

"Originally, he was in the forest by himself, isolated, and only had himself to talk to. So I would have scenes where I talk to myself and the whole thing, and then someone like Anna would chime in and I'd be like, 'I didn't say that. Did I say that?' It was interesting interplay, because I'd never heard another voice.
"So that went away and the song had to be re-conceived."
Mattias does briefly get verklempt at one point — which feels very much like a nod to Brown’s penchant for shedding tears on screen, which he memorably parodied during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live. Even if he downplays it:
"I don't actually think that I am [a famous crier], I just [think] people are unaccustomed to seeing dudes cry," Brown said.
We're also unaccustomed to hearing Brown sing, and with his big musical number cut from Frozen 2, it sounds like we may have to wait another few years for that.
"Hopefully in less than six years, when Frozen 3 comes along," Brown said, "you'll get a chance to check out the vocal stylings."
