'Four Weddings and a Funeral' voted most rewatchable British film ever

Richard Curtis’ 1994 romcom Four Wedding and a Funeral has been voted the British film that bears up to most repeat viewings in a new poll.

In a nationwide poll, Google Pixel 5 asked people to rank their top film from its list of 50 rewatchable British films created in collaboration with the British Film Institute, and the Mike Newell film starring Hugh Grant, was voted top by almost half (49%) of people asked.

Two of the film’s stars, John Hannah and Simon Callow, were reunited to celebrate the film’s victory, and to place placed a human-sized Google Maps pin outside the BFI on the Southbank, where the iconic ‘I think I love you’ scene from the film took place.

The poll forms part of the ‘Google Pixel presents Mobile Cinema’ nationwide treasure hunt which will officially start on 25 November.

New film clues will be released into the ‘Google Pixel presents Mobile Cinema’ maps experience every three days for two weeks, guiding people to locations relevant to each film in a Google Map from the comfort of their sofas. The first people to find each pin will receive a code, allowing them to rent the film on Google Play.

The Mummy star Hannah said, "It gives me a warm fuzzy glow to know that Four Weddings is still making so many people laugh, it's been a long time since we first made the world laugh (and cry) and this year in particular, we could all use a laugh – anytime, anywhere."

The other films to make the top five ‘most rewatchable British films’ list were Skyfall (37%), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (33%), Monty Python’s Life of Brian (26%) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (24%).

Simon Callow said: "Of all the over hundred films that I've appeared in, Four Weddings is the one that has moved and amused and delighted the most people.”

“At a time when many of us are turning to old favourites to cheer us up, I’m delighted that Four Weddings and a Funeral has turned up at the top of this list as the most rewatched film,” added screenwriter Richard Curtis. “When we made it we weren’t sure if anyone would want to watch it ONCE, let alone re-watch it time and time again.”
