First look at 'Terminator 6' shows Linda Hamilton back in action

Paramount Pictures has today shared the first look picture from its upcoming Terminator film. The film is being distributed in the UK by 20th Century Fox.

The image, shared on Twitter, shows new leads Natalia Reyes and Mackenzie Davis alongside franchise veteran Linda Hamilton who last appeared in T2: Judgment Day.

According to the accompanying press release the image shows Natalia Reyes (Cumbia Ninja) as Dani Ramos, Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049) as Grace, and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor. A closer look at Davis reveals her body is covered in scars that suggests she may be playing a Terminator.

The film, the sixth in the Terminator series, will be directed by Tim Miller who shot to fame with Deadpool after years as a visual effects artist. It’s based on a story devised by Miller with James Cameron who created the franchise, and directed the first two instalments, 1984’s The Terminator and 1991’s T2: Judgment Day.

The film remains untitled, and is referred to in the press release as Untitled Terminator Project. It is expected to film in Hungary, United Kingdom, Spain and Mexico.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to return for the film, which hits cinemas in November 2019, but it’s not a continuation of 2015’s Terminator: Genisys.

At a launch event for the project in 2017, Miller hinted that 71-year-old Schwarzenegger might be playing the human that the original T-800 was based on, which would neatly explain why he appears older than he did in the original films.

“You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype,” Miller teased.

“There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point.

“Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different?

“I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned!”

Untitled Terminator Project, the first in a new trilogy of films, is out in 2019.
