First Look At Stephen King’s The Dark Tower
It’s here – our first look at ‘The Dark Tower’.
It’s no secret that ‘The Dark Tower’, one of Stephen King’s most ambitious works, is currently being adapted for the big screen. Starring Idris Elba as the iconic gunslinger Roland Deschain and Matthew McConnaughey as the Man in Black, ‘The Dark Tower’ is already causing plenty of buzz… and could prove to be a huge hit.
And now Entertainment Weekly gives us our first official look…

“We spent a week on the set in Cape Town, South Africa, watching as this genre mash-up of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, Westerns, and old-fashioned mythology came together,” they revealed. “Now, we’re opening the door to this other realm for fans to step through.”
Of course, ‘The Dark Tower’ series spans eight novels so far, from celebrated author Stephen King. Mixing numerous genres to provide something truly unique, the novels have spanned a staggering three decades… and break down the barriers between worlds.
But how closely will ‘The Dark Tower’ resemble the books?
Although it’s based on the novels, we already know that the upcoming film adaptation will take a few liberties… so fans shouldn’t expect a verbatim adaptation of the source material. Instead, the film explores key elements of the story.
But how that pans out, remains to be seen.
“The new movie picks elements from throughout these writings to assemble a new take on the story of Roland the Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and his pursuit of the sorcerer known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), who intends to collapse the tower and rule the ruins and chaos alongside a sinister force known as the Crimson King.”
‘The Dark Tower’ stars Idris Elba alongside Matthew McConaughey, Jackie Earl Hayley, Claudia Kim, Katheryn Winnick and Michael Barbieri amongst others.
Nikolaj Arcel is directing based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen and Jeff Pinkner.
‘The Dark Tower’ heads to cinemas on 17 February 2017.
