Extraction 3: Release date, cast, plot for Netflix threequel
Tyler Rake is gearing up for a third, action-packed mission
While many of us might still be recovering from his last explosion-laden job, Netflix’s newest hero Tyler Rake has no time to hang around, with Extraction 3 already in active development.
Actually, news of a third film for Chris Hemsworth’s take on an action man who originally appeared in author Ande Parks' graphic novel Ciudad isn’t all that surprising. In addition to part one being streamed by a whopping 99 million households during its first four weeks of release in 2020 - a Netflix original record - 2023’s part two was met with an equally ravenous appetite.
Following its debut on Friday, 16 June, Extraction 2 shot to the top of Netflix's most popular list and - at the time of writing at least - it’s still there, clocking up a massive 42,800,000 views and counting.

With those numbers (and decent Rotten Tomatoes scores to boot), a trilogy capper was all but guaranteed and it officially received the green light just a few days after part two dropped.
Where will Rake be heading next? Well, it may be early days but here’s everything we know so far, including release date, plot and casting updates.
When is Extraction 3 released?
Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave will return to helm Extraction 3 and while it’s not been officially confirmed just yet, it’s a safe bet that Joe and Anthony Russo will return for producing duties. Joe Russo also wrote the first two movies, so perhaps he'll be penning the third too.
Despite the film officially getting the go-ahead from Netflix, it’s still a little too early to predict just when we might be able to see Extraction 3 hit the streamer.
Considering the movie is not yet in production, we’re guessing it’ll be at least mid-2024 or early 2025 before we welcome Rake back into our living rooms.
Who is starring in Extraction 3?
They’d have a hard job making an Extraction movie without Hemsworth, so it’s good news that he has been confirmed to return for one more outing, helping to push this double-punch series into a full-blown movie trilogy.
Marking his biggest franchise character outside of Marvel hero Thor, Hemsworth seems to be having the time of his life swapping Mjölnir for tactical gear and will likely continue to do so in Extraction 3.
While our leading man's presence is 100% confirmed, we’re still not sure who he may encounter on his latest mission. That said, it’s a safe assumption that we might find him crossing paths with some familiar faces, like Idris Elba’s Alcott, the mysterious figure who has recruited Rake for jobs in the past. There are even rumours suggesting that Alcott may be getting his own spin-off movie.
There’s also a strong chance that surviving franchise faces like Nik Khan, played by Golshifteh Farahani will also be back for more alongside Rake's ex-wife Mia, played by Olga Kurylenko.
Extraction 3 plot
Much like casting details, little is known about plot points regarding Extraction 3. In the first film, Rake was tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord. In its follow-up, our hero had to help his ex-wife’s sister and her children escape a prison operated by a crime kingpin.
Following the extensive and impressive action sequences featured in the franchise so far - including an epic, 20-minute, explosive prison scene that required 400 extras and comfortably beat part one’s 12-minute car chase equivalent - we can likely expect the film’s former stuntman director to up the ante even further.
“I want it to be an immersive, intense thrill ride,” Hargrave has said of Extraction 2’s action. Here’s to more of the same in film three.
Is there an Extraction 3 trailer?
Unfortunately, with production yet to begin, we’re yet to see any footage or trailers. As the film’s creation gets underway, hopefully, Netflix will start to share some details online.
Extraction 3 is coming soon.
