Elizabeth Banks Steps Down As Pitch Perfect 3 Director
The third movie in the a capella comedy series is on the lookout for a new director, as Elizabeth Banks has pulled out.
Banks was a producer and played a supporting role on 2012′s ‘Pitch Perfect’ (directed by Jason Moore), then made her directorial debut on the 2015 sequel, and she had been lined up to helm the third.
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter Banks has now vacated this position, but will remain on board as producer, and according to Deadline she will also reprise her role as singing contest judge Gail.
No explanation has been given for Banks’ withdrawal from the director’s chair on ‘Pitch Perfect 3,’ but it seems likely that her busy schedule has something to do with it.
As well as her upcoming role as villainess Rita Repulsa in next year’s ‘Power Rangers,’ the ‘Hunger Games’ actress has further directorial projects in the pipeline.
She is known to have been in talks to helm a new take on ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ as well as an adaptation of fantasy novel ‘Red Queen.’ Nothing has been officially announced on either project - but Banks’ withdrawal from ‘Pitch Perfect 3′ would certainly suggest things might be in motion.
While studio Universal has not yet named a new director for ‘Pitch Perfect 3,′ Deadline mention that original director Jason Moore may return.
In any case, series stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld and Brittany Snow will be back.
The sequel is set to open in the US on 22 December 2017.
