'Doctor Strange': Benedict Wong shares the Marvel star he'd love to appear with (exclusive)

Benedict Wong has revealed he'd love to share more screen time with Jacob Batalon in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

The 50-year-old British actor returns as Sorcerer Supreme Wong in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but he's keen to possibly chalk up a solo outing for the character.

Wong told Yahoo Entertainment UK he'd love for his character and Peter Parker's best buddy Ned to appear together, given the latter's recently acquired skills for conjuring magical portals.

The actor said: "I like the idea of talking to Ned. He can now open a portal. I said we should do the sorcerer and the apprentice. Who knows?"

In the six years since Wong first appeared in the first Doctor Strange movie, the character has popped up in numerous Marvel properties, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Wong said: "It's been like six years now and to start from the no-nonsense midfield general librarian to have a cameo in all of these movies, as a fan, has been fantastic.

"Now it's our sequel and he has picked up the gauntlet and become the Sorcerer Supreme."

When it comes to Multiverse of Madness, though, there are already plenty of magic-wielding folk in the cast, with Wong and Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) now joined by Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen).

But Wong said there's no rivalry among the stars as to whose spellcasting abilities look the coolest on screen.

"I think everybody has their own special brand of magic. I think everyone has their own kind of sorcery wave teacher," he said.

Wong added that his own magical moves are inspired by his "kung-fu schooldays" and rely heavily on the work of the visual effects team to add the cool factor.

He added: "I think I first developed it in Infinity War. I was doing this [arm movement] and I kept telling the VFX guy 'I'm doing it now'. It's amazing. You've always got to buy them a drink."

Olsen, however, joked to Yahoo Entertainment UK that "we all look equally ridiculous" when it comes to the necessary arm-waving and mystical gestures.

Multiverse of Madness, directed by Sam Raimi, sees Strange and Wong exploring the threats of the multiverse after the arrival of reality-hopping teen America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez).

Wong, like his co-stars, had not yet seen the movie when he spoke to us, but he said his "nerd mates" like to keep him abreast of all of the feverish online speculation.

"They'll send me the theories. There's some really good ones. I like that there's a lot of debate there with fan theories," said Wong.

"It's great and I love how the MCU finds a way to tease the fans in that way, whether it be a mysterious shadow walking past a council meeting."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in cinemas in the UK from 5 May.
