Disney record their most successful box office year ever

Disney are going from strength to strength when it comes to their movie output but with two months of 2016 left they’ve already had their best ever year.

The Mouse House are responsible for the four highest-grossing films of 2016 (so far, at least) which are ‘Zootropolis’ ($1.023m), ‘Captain America: Civil War’ ($1.153m), ‘Jungle Book’ ($966m), and ‘Finding Dory’ ($1.021m).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he studio’s total so far this year is $5.85 billion, beating its 2015 tally of $5.84 billion - and there’s still eight weeks to go; not to mention the release of a small film set in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.

While ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ isn’t part of the episodic instalments, the spin-off is still predicted to do very well. The question is, will it go toe-to-toe with last year’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’? It’s unlikely it’ll make anything close to the $2+ billion it took in a relatively short space of time but it could still surprise everyone when it hits cinemas just before Christmas.

Now Disney will have its eyes set on the industry record - held by Universal’s amazing 2015 where the studio earned a whopping $6.89 billion. That was down to massive hits such as ‘Fast and Furious 8′, ‘Jurassic World’, and ‘Minions’… yet Disney’s string of hits in 2016 now looks certain to overtake that figure.

With ‘Doctor Strange’ only just opening in cinemas and animated adventure ‘Moana’ still to come, Disney could even top the $7 billion barrier which, considering how much they’re raking in on average each month, would be hugely impressive.
