Disney considering Beauty And The Beast spinoffs

‘Beauty And The Beast’ has already been declared another huge success for Disney, as it has smashed numerous box office records on its way to a worldwide haul of $410 million in less than a week. It has even been predicted that this amount could rise as high as $1 billion by the time it’s done.

So it’s not much of a surprise that, in the wake of the film’s success, Disney is now considering how to expand the ‘Beauty And The Beast’ franchise. Disney’s president of production Sean Bailey has now revealed to Deadline that this probably won’t take the shape of a sequel, though, and could instead see a spinoff or prequel greenlit.

The publication reported, “There are currently no plans for a sequel and the studio – perhaps with ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ as a reminder – won’t try to force one. It will explore possible spinoff and prequel scenarios, Bailey said.”

It’s understandable that Disney are apprehensive about a ‘Beauty And The Beast’ sequel, as 2016’s ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ grossed just $300 million in comparison to its predecessor’s haul of $1.025 billion back in 2010.

It’s not as though Disney are bereft of ideas at the moment, though. That’s because they’re currently developing numerous live-action versions of their classic animated films, which will see ‘Aladdin’, ‘Cruella’, ‘Dumbo’, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, and ‘Mulan’ released over the coming years.
