There are currently no plans, it seems, for Mulan to play in UK cinemas, which were able to reopen in 4 July following the global coronavirus lockdown.
Starring Liu Yifei in the title role, the film has been directed by Niki Caro, and also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles.
Here’s the synopsis: When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.
The film was most recently was slated for a theatrical release on 21 August, before it was delayed indefinitely in July.
It was on the verge of release on 27 March, and had held premieres, when the coronavirus pandemic closed theatres around the world. Disney then moved it to 24 July before switching to its most recent date of 21 August.
Cinemas have now reopened across the UK, with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Marvel’s The New Mutants both both hitting screens this week.
