David Bowie's son Duncan Jones slams plans for planned biopic about his dad
Duncan Jones, the director son of David Bowie, has called into questions plans for a biopic on his father starring musician-turned-actor Johnny Flynn.
It was announced yesterday that Flynn, who starred in indie drama Beast and NatGeo series Genius, is to front a film called Stardust, set around Bowie’s first trip to the US in 1971.
Jena Malone is set to play Bowie’s first wife Angie, Jones’s mother, with comedian and actor Mar Maron playing the US publicist from the singer’s label.
Per Screen Daily, the movie will feature ‘a wide soundtrack including certain Bowie performances‘.
However, Jones, who’s made movies including Moon and World of Warcraft, says he knows nothing about the movie.
Tweeting yesterday, he said that there is no music cleared for the project, and that it does not have the blessing of the family.
“Pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for ANY biopic… I would know,” he said, after a fan made Jones aware of the film’s production on Twitter.
“I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dads music in it, & I can’t imagine that changing.
“If you want to see a biopic without his music or the families blessing, thats up to the audience [sic].”

Yahoo Movies UK has reached out to Salon Pictures, the producers of the film, for comment.
Screen Daily first reported that the film is being directed by Gabriel Range, with a script penned by Christopher Bell, while Salon was responsible for producing the biopic Churchill, with Brian Cox and Miranda Richardson, from 2017.
Filming is to commence in June.
