Daniel Craig 'really quite drunk' as he thanks crew during wrap speech for Bond 25

An emotional Daniel Craig explained to cast and crew that he was “really quite drunk” as he made a wrap speech to mark his final James Bond movie, No Time To Die.

Craig, who is hanging up the tuxedo after four movies as 007, made an emotional tribute to his workmates in front of a statuesque Bond-themed multi-layer cake.

“I just want to say, and I am really quite drunk now so I won’t go on for long, this has been one of the best, most wonderful experiences I have ever had,” he said.

“You have all done the most amazing job. I could not be more proud to work with every single one of you on this production. I would like to thank you for this evening, for Barbara [Broccoli], for putting it on. Thank goodness, we did this tonight.”

The final scenes of the movie, the 25th official Bond film, were filmed in picturesque Matera in southern Italy.

Filming also took place in Norway, Jamaica and London, though the production has been far from plain sailing.

Craig injured his ankle while shooting in Jamaica and needed to be flown back to the US for surgery, delaying production for weeks, and then in June a crew member was injured by a controlled stunt explosion.

All this came after director Danny Boyle parted ways with the movie after disagreeing with producers over plot.

True Detective helmsman Cary Fukunaga was then drafted in to replace him, though rumours emerged that the script was being constantly rewritten as filming was taking place.

Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge was drafted in to “punch up” the female dialogue, and last week it emerged that she also worked across the rest of the script too. She is now being courted to write Bond 26.

No Time To Die finds Craig's Bond called back to active service (seemingly having lost his 007 codename to new agent Romi, played by Lashana Lynch), after Jeffrey Wright's Felix Leiter asks him to help find a missing scientist.

It also stars Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Léa Seydoux, with Rami Malek as the villain.

No Time To Die is out on 3 April 2020.
