Daniel Craig is happy for James Bond to change race or gender

Daniel Craig has weighed in on whether James Bond should be played by a woman or an actor of colour, insisting that it should just go to the “right person for the job,” regardless of their race or gender.

Craig made these comments to ET Online during the recent launch of James Bond 25, adding, “I think that’s what it should be. I think that everybody should be considered. For women and for African Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.”

“It shouldn’t have to be Bond that makes … it doesn’t need to be Bond. It just needs to be written – some good parts.”

During the same interview, Craig once again suggested that this will be his fifth and final performance as 007, declaring, “This is going to be my last Bond I think. I think I’ve done enough, people are going to get sick of the sight of me. Someone else should have a go.”

Idris Elba has been heavily linked with replacing Craig as Bond after the 25th installment to the franchise. However, the 46-year-old has recently insisted that he probably won’t ever play the world’s most famous spy.

Meanwhile we now have a confirmed synopsis for the still untitled Bond 25. “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend, Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), from the CIA turns up asking for help.”

We’ll see what that fully entails, and what Rami Malek can do as the film’s mysterious new villain, when James Bond 25 is finally released on April 8, 2020.
