'La La Land' director Damien Chazelle returns to jazz in main trailer for 'The Eddy'

Netflix has released the main trailer for Oscar-winner Damien Chazelle’s new series The Eddy.

35-year-old Chazelle is the youngest ever winner of the Best Director Academy Award, having won for La La Land in 2017 aged 32. After his Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, he’s returning to familiar territory for his foray into the world of television which is set in a Parisian jazz club.

The new eight-part series stars André Holland (Moonlight) and Joanna Kulig (Cold War) alongside Amandla Stenberg, Taham Rahim and Leïla Bekhti, and will launch globally on the streaming service on 8 May.

Netflix has also announced that the official soundtrack for the series will also be released on 8 May via Arista Records and will feature original music from the show.

Synopsis: “Set in the vibrant multicultural neighbourhoods of modern-day Paris, The Eddy tells the story of the owner of a struggling club, its house band and the dangers they face from the chaotic city that surrounds them.

“Interspersed with dynamic and uplifting performances, The Eddy conveys the power of music to heal, unite and turn chaos into beauty.”

The series has been directed by Chazelle, Alan Poul (Tales of the City), Houda Benyamina (Divines) and Laïla Marrakchi (Le Bureau des Légendes).

It was brought to the screen through a collaboration between Alan Poul, Damien Chazelle, BAFTA Award winner Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials) and six-time Grammy Award-winner Glen Ballard, who wrote the songs and established The Eddy’s band which is composed of real-life musicians Randy Kerber, Ludovic Louis, Lada Obradovic, Jowee Omicil and Damian Nueva Cortes.
