Damian Lewis Still Seems Keen To Be Next James Bond
Idris Elba may have declared recently that he “can’t talk” about James Bond anymore, but another oft-mentioned potential successor to Daniel Craig remains happy to do so.
Speaking to CBS News, Damian Lewis was asked whether he will be the next actor to portray 007 - to which he joked (we hope), “I could tell you but I’d have to kill you.”
The ‘Homeland’ actor continued, “Look, when you’re growing up as a kid, if somebody said to you, ‘Would you like to be James Bond?’ First of all you’d laugh and say, 'It’s never going to happen.’ Secondly you say, 'Yeah, obviously.’“
Lewis has long since expressed interest in the role, and in 2015 was named the bookie’s favourite to take over once Craig steps down - with Idris Elba and Tom Hardy also given high odds.
However, recent reports suggest that the Bond producers are keen to keep Craig on for a further two movies, along with Christoph Waltz as (SPOILER ALERT!) Blofeld.
Should Craig agree to stay for two more, might Lewis - who turns 45 next month - be a little too old to make his 007 debut once the role is free? We shall see.
Lewis will next be seen in US TV drama ‘Billions.’
