Daisy Ridley struggled to get work after 'The Rise of Skywalker' was released

Daisy Ridley has revealed she struggled to get work after the release of her final Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker.

Ridley portrayed protagonist Rey in the Sequel Trilogy and said goodbye to the role in the final moments of the divisive ninth Star Wars episode.

The 28-year-old star told EW her phone wasn’t ringing with offers and that she had multiple unsuccessful auditions in the early months of 2020.

“Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through," she said.

"I was like 'aww, no one wants to employ me’,” she said, adding that “there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them”.

Ridley said, though, that it was “good mentally” for her to be able to “slow down” after being a part of the Star Wars juggernaut for more than five years.

Her work did eventually pick up, though, and she is due to provide one of the main voices for upcoming Xbox adventure game Twelve Minutes.

Other key characters in the game are set to be voiced by James McAvoy and Willem Dafoe.

Ridley is also due to provide a voice for the virtual reality movie Baba Yaga and has teased a “super f***ing dark” project about memory she has coming up.

Ridley said earlier this year that it was “really tricky” to deal with the fan and critical backlash that surrounded The Rise of Skywalker.

She admitted that January was “not that nice” as negative reaction to the film spread across the internet.

Ridley said: “I think it's that tricky thing of when you're part of something that is so filled with love and then people... you know, everyone's entitled to not like something but it feels like it's changed slightly.

“I think in general that's because [of] social media and what have you."

The Rise of Skywalker marked the final chapter of the main Skywalker Saga, with Kathleen Kennedy stating that the future of the galaxy far, far away is “evolving”.
