'Sexy Beast' is getting a prequel TV series
A 10-episode prequel series to the 2000 British gangster flick Sexy Beast has been green-lit by Paramount Network.
In collaboration with Anonymous Content, fans of the original Jonathan Glazer production are set to discover the formation of the criminals that make up this murky world, focusing in on the characters Gal Dove (Ray Winstone), Don Logan (Ben Kingsley) and Teddy Bass (Ian McShane), and how the former descends into the criminal underbelly of London in the 1990s.
It’s not yet clear if the original stars will return for the show.
There's much scope in the complex relationship between Gal and Don to explore, as well as discovering just how they came to be associated with Teddy – as well as learning of how Gal first met, and subsequently fell in love with DeeDee (played in the movie by Amanda Redman).

Attached to write the series is Michael Caleo, who has written for The Sopranos as well penning a screenplay for Luc Besson's The Family, starring Robert De Niro.
Meanwhile Karyn Kusama (Destroyer, Billions) is on board to direct, while encouragingly the film's original writers Louis Mellis and David Scinto have given their blessing, as executive producers on the project.
Keith Cox, the President of Development and Production for Paramount Network and TV Land, said the following in an official statement:
“We’re thrilled Sexy Beast is joining our robust scripted slate of originals. We were impressed with Michael Caleo’s craft of the prequel, bringing these strong characters back to life for TV audiences, and with the exceptional style Karyn Kusama plans to bring to this series.”

With such fantastic characters at the heart of this tale – and with an established, cult-like following already in place, there are many reasons to be excited about returning to the world of Sexy Beast. Especially following the success of other spin-off TV series such as Fargo. Big question now though, is who will be cast in the leading roles?
